For nearly four months, communities under Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have encountered a series of attacks by a notorious gang nicknamed the ’40 Boys’ gang.
The most recent attack occurred on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Tasha 2 at about 1:30 a.m.
Many residents of Tasha 2 were left with injuries to different parts of their bodies, while others who managed to escape lost their belongings during the attack.
A visit by The Guardian to the Tasha 2 community revealed vandalised vehicles, houses, and other property.
Most of the victims are currently receiving treatment at Gateway Hospital, adjacent to Government Secondary School (GSS), Tasha 2.
Communities that have been attacked by the group include Gydna, popularly known as Akaraka, Tasha 1, Tasha 2, Agwan-shawu, and Jiwa, a community where the immediate past chairman of the council, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, resides.
While many residents were injured in the Akaraka and Tasha 1 attacks back in July, a security guard was allegedly murdered at Agwan-shawu during a midnight operation by the notorious gang.
On Sunday, September 8, at about 2:00 a.m., residents of Jiwa scrambled for safety when the notorious group struck the community. A vehicle mechanic who identified himself as Onoja told The Guardian that his belongings and those of his wife were forcefully taken by members of the gang.
Another resident, who identified himself as Nuhu Umar, said his belongings and those of his entire household were taken away by the gang, calling for government intervention to end the series of attacks on the communities.
