The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has assured political parties of equal opportunities during the council elections.
Chairman of OGSIEC, Babatunde Osibodu, who gave the assurance during a media engagement in Abeokuta, said that the Commission would be engaging more with the political parties through constructive dialogue and feedback, as well as observation of the party’s primaries to ensure seamless elections.
Osibodu said: “If the process is seen to be fair, credible and transparent, then I have done my job. The results do not depend on the Commission but on the voters.”
The OGSIEC boss added that all contestants would be treated equally.
He said that arrangements for logistics had been put in place to ensure voting materials arrive early at the venue of each polling unit, adding that there is a need for a high calibre of people with proven track records to join hands in the administration of local councils to further strengthen democracy at the grassroots.
Osibodu further said that the Commission would work closely with the House of Assembly, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), women groups, youths and security agencies across the state to prevent security breaches.
He, therefore, warned those planning to disrupt the peaceful process to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
