The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has disclosed that it purchased premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from Dangote Petroleum Refinery at N898 per litre.
NNPC’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, confirmed the price to TheCable on Sunday and debunked reports that NNPC purchased petrol from Dangote refinery at N766 per litre.
“We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N760 per liter is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per litre,” Soneye said
He also stated that over 70 trucks had been loaded by the time the report was filed.
The development comes as a fleet of NNPCL trucks commenced loading Premium Motor Spirit at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
Footage shared on the Dangote Group’s X handle showed the trucks arriving at the refinery. The post announced, “First set of trucks set for loading of PMS at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.”
Dangote refinery began petrol production on September 3, with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) expecting the refinery to supply 25 million litres of petrol per day in September and increase to 30 million litres per day by October.
The NNPC had earlier indicated that hundreds of trucks would be utilised for the loading process. The Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products had recently disclosed that the Dangote Refinery will sell Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol only to the state oil company, NNPCL.
