Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto has described education as the foundation and bedrock of national development.
Sokoto, who spoke through his Commissioner for Higher Education, Aminu Abdullahi, at the convocation ceremony of 88 medical students whose studies at the Sudan International University, Khartoum, were disrupted by the war in Sudan, assured of his administration’s continuous commitment to higher education.
The medical graduates, after their displacement in Sudan, were able to continue their studies at Usman Danfodiyo University Medical College, through the support of the Sokoto State government, where they eventually completed their medical programme.
Abdullahi also attributed the successes recorded in the sector to the priority attention given education in the state.
He said: “One third of the budget for this year is dedicated to education, our tertiary institutions have benefited from accreditation and infrastructure, which is part of the governor’s agenda.”
While congratulating the graduands for the feat, Abdullahi urged them to use the knowledge gained to serve humanity.
He also assured graduands of government’s support for those willing to further their studies.
