The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Edo State branch on Thursday charged the people of the state, particularly the five blocks of CAN, to pray and seek the peace of God for the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The leadership of CAN also prayed for peaceful conduct of the governorship election in the state and urged the people to go about peacefully and cast their votes without fear on election day.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Edo State chapter, Apostle Irekpono Omoike, led the prayers for the peaceful conduct of the governorship election during a special prayer session organized by the state CAN leadership.

He assured that the Edo State Government and the people of the state will experience a peaceful election that will be adjudged free and fair, with the outcome producing a God-fearing government and governor.

The Edo State CAN chairman appealed to all and sundry to come en masse and vote peacefully for the best candidate of their choice, saying that giving their votes to a governor with the fear of God would guarantee peace and prosperity in Edo.

Other clerics, including the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, and General Overseer of the Family Intercessory Ministries in Benin, Pastor (Mrs.) Margaret Oghosa Agbonifo, said God has provided a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

She said the Saturday election would not end the lives of the Edo people, adding that “those who planned to cause mayhem during the election will fail.”

Agbonifo urged members of the Christian community in the state to be watchful and prayerful as they go out to vote, adding: “We shall have a very credible election in the state.”

On his part, Matthew Ogbonmwan said the political atmosphere will be rancor-free and devoid of violence, urging the people to vote for the best candidate on Saturday to attract God’s blessings to the people of Edo State.

Rev. Fr. Alfred Agbonlahor joined his faith with others to pray for a peaceful conduct of the state governorship election, saying, “Every scheming and plot to work against what God has ordained for Edo State and the people will not stand on election day. Everyone who has decreed that heads will roll, their heads will roll IJN.”
