The Headlamp Awards proudly celebrate the outstanding contributions of non-profit organizations and individuals worldwide who are making a significant impact in advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. By recognising these initiatives, the awards aim to inspire collaboration, amplify efforts, and contribute to the global achievement of the SDGs.
The inaugural edition of the Headlamp Awards took place on 9th August at the prestigious Conservatory Hall in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Distinguished guests at the event included the Mayor of Brampton, the CEO of the Brampton Board of Trade, and the Mayor’s Economic Ambassador, alongside other notable attendees. The awards ceremony showcased the exceptional work of those championing sustainable development across the globe.
This year, the following individuals and organisations were honoured for their remarkable contributions in various categories:
- Jaipaul Massey-Singh – Award for Excellence in Sustainable Business
- Ogiame Atuwase III (CFR), The Olu of Warri – Excellence in Cultural Preservation
- Martins & Eno Acha Foundation – Excellence in Community Development
- Adeyemi Uzee Usman – Youth Development
- Adeniyi Ifetayo – Excellence in Journalism
- Akinade Oduntan – Excellence in Community Support Services
- Maryam Muritala – Excellence in Entrepreneurship Development
- Jasmine Oboma – Excellence in Community Education
- Mercy Itohan Osayi – Excellence in Women Development
- Gillian Aideyan – Excellence in Business
Chukwuebuka Anyaduba, President of IIASDG Africa, the organising body of the Headlamp Awards, highlighted the importance of celebrating these accomplishments. “By cultivating a culture of recognition, the Headlamp Awards instil a deep appreciation for the transformative contributions made by these exceptional individuals and organisations. Their efforts underscore the critical role of innovation and commitment in driving sustainable progress,” he said.
The International Initiatives for the Advancement of SDGs in Africa (IIASDG) continues to lead global efforts in fostering excellence and innovation for sustainable development. Mr Anyaduba expressed his enthusiasm for the work being done: “With a passion for sustainability and a dedication to celebrating those shaping a better world, IIASDG is committed to advancing the SDGs globally.”
One of the honourees, Ambassador Martins Acha, expressed gratitude to the organisers, stating, “This award encourages our Foundation and will spur us to do even more.”
