
The Drum Majors for Peace, in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture, Social Development Secretariat (FCTA), is set to host the 3rd National Unity Dance Festival in celebration of World Peace Day 2024. This vibrant event will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts & Culture in Area 10, Garki, Abuja. The festival will centre around the theme: “Dance; A Catalyst for Unity,” showcasing the power of dance as a unifying force.

The National Unity Dance Festival is an annual, internationally recognized celebration that promotes peace, inclusivity, and social cohesion both within Nigeria and beyond. Drum Majors for Peace stressed the transformative potential of the arts, with this festival serving as a testament to the organisation’s commitment to fostering tolerance and understanding through creative expression.
Ambassador Nsikan Paul, Executive Director of Drum Majors for Peace, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Dance is a universal language that transcends boundaries. Through this festival, we aim to inspire unity and harmony among people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.” He noted that the event will attract researchers, academicians, members of the diplomatic community, political leaders, community and religious figures, as well as representatives from private and public organisations, NGOs, CSOs, and youth groups, all gathering to advocate for peace and unity through the arts.

Ambassador Paul expressed optimism about the festival’s impact, particularly given the current challenges Nigeria faces, including insecurity from kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and social unrest. He stressed the need for initiatives that promote harmony in these trying times.
The festival will feature performances by talented Nigerian dancers, each conveying a message of peace and unity. It aims to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity while empowering creativity and fostering a sense of community.

Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the organisation is committed to building sustainable communities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 11, and 16.
