Following the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri and President Bola Tinubu’s call to the private sector to support recovery efforts, industrialist, philanthropist and Founder of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has donated N2 billion to aid the victims and facilitate rehabilitation.
The gesture includes N1 billion in cash and N1 billion worth of essential food supplies to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons and communities affected by the disaster.
The announcement was made when a delegation visited Maiduguri to deliver the food items and cash.
Speaking on the donation, Rabiu, who is the Chairman of BUA Group and founder of ASR Africa, reaffirmed his commitment to standing by Nigerians in times of need.
“The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused untold hardship for thousands of families. I believe it is my responsibility and that of my organisation which is deeply rooted in the fabric of Nigerian society, to act swiftly and meaningfully in providing relief to those affected. This N2 billion donation to the victims of the recent flooding in Borno is one way of supporting the most vulnerable in times of crisis,” he said.
ALSO, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has arrived in Maiduguri to pay condolences to the Emirate, people and government of the state over the recent devastating flood disaster that claimed many lives, properties and eroded the means of livelihood of many residents.
The Sultan of Sokoto Media Team said the visit was a display of unity and compassion, during which the monarch was accompanied by the Etsu Nupe, Yahya Abubakar, and other distinguished traditional leaders, who had their first point of call at the palace of Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al-Amin El-Kanemi.
The august visitors were later joined by the Shehu at the Government House, Maiduguri, where condolences and prayers were offered for the repose of affected people.
Prayers were also offered for the quick recovery of the injured persons, who are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in the state.
The Sultan, who was also accompanied by his son, Prince Amir Sa’ad Abubakar, sympathised with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, members of his government, the Kanem Borno Empire and the entire good people of the state over the unprecedented disaster.
