Otti speaks on global development initiatives at university
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called for a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, highlighting its significant departure from traditional economic development models.
The governor delivering a keynote speech at the international conference on Human Rights, Sustainability and Climate Change at the University of Buckingham, recently, discussed the evolution of development concepts, exploring a spectrum of global development initiatives.
In his speech titled, ‘Building Capacity to Support Sustainable Development: A Case Study of Abia State, Nigeria’, Otti stated that these initiatives span from early development theories through the post-World War II and post-Cold War periods to the contemporary impact of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He noted that his manifesto strategically aligned with the SDGs, stating that Abia State was witnessing positive, sustainable development outcomes due to the alignment.
He passionately engaged the audience with a critique of the global mandate for climate action, arguing that Africa is not yet prepared for such measures.
He noted that while Abia State has not yet fully realised its developmental potential, the state was evidently on an upward trajectory, heralding a new era of progress and hope.
Otti was welcomed to the University of Buckingham by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Tooley; the Dean of Faculty of Computing, Law and Psychology, Prof. Harin Sellahewa; Director of Buckingham Business Enterprise, Prof. Nigel Adams and the Conference Director/Chairperson, Dr. Cynthia C. Umezulike.
