The Grammy-nominated singer recently shared the thriller of the documentary on his Instagram page on Monday, September 23. The trailer showcases the inner city part of Lagos where Asake grew up. It also shows the iconic horse statues at the Tafawa Balewa Square and Kakawa Street in downtown Lagos Island.
Though the documentary title was not revealed, there are however insinuations it may be ‘Lungu Boy’ — the title of Asaka’s third album — which loosely translates to a ghetto boy, which features superstars Wizkid, Stormzy, Central Cee, and Ludmilaa. The footage also captures moments from Asake’s ongoing ‘Lungu Boy’ world tour.
Since breaking into the mainstream in 2022, with the single Mr. Money, Asake has risen to superstardom through a steady release of chart-topping hits and albums. He has enjoyed remarkable success in the United Kingdom where he has logged all of his three Long Plays (LPs) atop the UK Apple Music Album Chart thereby making him the only Nigerian artiste to achieve the feat.
At his latest O2 Arena concert, he was presented an O2 Arena sold-out plaque and a BRIT silver plaque for his album Work Of Art by Idris Elba. ‘Work of Art’ became Asake’s second album to receive a BRIT silver plaque after his debut album, Mr Money With The Vibes, which also got a silver certification in the UK.
Asake has also received a plethora of awards and nominations for his talent. He was nominated in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for Amapiano, his hit song with Olamide, the rapper.
He recently sold out his show at London’s highly acclaimed 20,000-capacity O2 Arena for the second time. The achievement sees Asake join the likes of Wizkid and Davido, who have sold out the O2.
