Bobrisky: I’m still on duty, suspension was on social media, says prison official

One of the prison officials suspended over bribery allegations involving popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye better known as Bobrisky, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State, Michael Benson, has denied being suspended.

He described his suspension by the Federal Government as a “social media suspension.”

Last week, the Federal Government suspended some senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service over allegations of infractions raised by Bobrisky.

In a statement, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, gave the suspension order.

“Following the viral video trending on social media regarding alleged infractions by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service related to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service,” the statement read.

“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State.”

But, answering questions at the House of Representatives investigative hearing on the matter, Benson said he never received any letter of suspension.

“I have not received any letter of suspension. It is social media suspension,” he stated.
