The Victoria Island and Ikoyi Residents Association has announced the launch of a stepped-up leadership collaboration with the Lagos State government to address environmental and infrastructural challenges faced by the two communities.
The initiative was the first step within a comprehensive plan agreed at a meeting with the Lagos State government and Victoria Island and Ikoyi Residents Association at Government House, Marina, Lagos in April this year.
Those present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Association, Sir Akin Fadoju, the Vice Chairman, Hakeem Otiti, and two former Chairmen, namely Alhaji Femi Okunnu and Mrs. Wonu Folami. Others present were Mr Olurogba Orimalade, Mrs Ramdat Okunola, Mrs Katia Ekesi, Hajia Sarwi Rahaman, Princess Aduke Adeyemi, and the Association’s Executive Secretary, Abdul Latif Muse.
The Association, in a statement by Fadoju, said the initiative marked a renewed commitment to foster sustainable development and enhance the quality of life for residents in the communities.
“The partnership with the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, represents a shared commitment to addressing the environmental and infrastructural challenges faced by our communities.
“We commend his dedication and visionary approach that aligns with our goal to create a sustainable future for the residents of Victoria Island and Ikoyi,” he said.
According to the group, the initiative focuses on several key areas which include enhancing water resources management, improving waste management systems, promoting green urban development, and maintaining the primary and collector drainage system.
The leaders said by leveraging the expertise and resources of both the state government and the Association, they are poised to deliver actionable solutions for a lasting and positive impact on the environment and the daily lives of residents.
