Algorand Foundation set to take in Jalingo Taraba State is a programme put together by April Benjamin and Dawn Communication Limited (Development Consultants) in partnership with Mortin Consult.

This year, seasoned developers in blockchain technology will compete to win prizes in a three-week hackathon, starting from October 18 to November 9, 2024.

Digital transformation wave is sweeping across Africa and Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind. Taraba State is therefore channeling strategic investments in education, digital literacy, and blockchain expertise.

After its successful initiatives in Plateau State, Algorand’s next port of call is Taraba State. The mission is to empower young people with the intent to foster economic growth through technology. Hackathons are rare opportunities where participants take innovation to a new height. They look to introduce new techniques, standards or personal programming styles to progress on projects. This hackathon is expected to place Taraba State in the global stage as a future-forward state in terms of digital economy.

The hackathon takes place in 6 regions all over the world. Organisers say the event is channelled to connect with a regional audience and put the Nigerian web3 community on the global map. It is also open to developers or entrepreneurs who want to empower themselves to explore the unique capabilities of Algorand’s blockchain technology. The emphasis is to foster collaboration between developers and entrepreneurs to shape the future of the blockchain industry.

This year’s event will explore the application of blockchain technology in various industries, aiming to boost efficiency and transparency. It will also provide practical exposure and hands-on experience to young Nigerians, making blockchain a viable career. The initiative was inaugurated in Jalingo by the State Commissioner of Digital Economy and Innovation, Gideon Nonso.

The programme is about laying the foundation for a future where blockchain technology plays a central role in the state’s economy. Algorand is helping to build a robust and self-sustaining blockchain ecosystem in Nigeria. More states are also expected to benefit from its technology transfer initiatives in subsequent programmes.
