Seeks financial assistance for vulnerable women
Solutions Women International Foundation (SWIF), a non-governmental organisation, marked its fifth anniversary last weekend with a celebration and empowerment event for widows, vulnerable women, and less privileged Nigerians in Festac Town, Lagos.

The event, attended by beneficiaries from Lagos and Ogun states, featured the cutting of SWIF’s anniversary cake and the distribution of food, educational materials, healthcare products, and free health tests. SWIF also empowered participants financially and donated to charity homes.

Founded five years ago in America by Imo State-born Evangelist Regina Simon Orikannu, SWIF aims to empower and advocate for voiceless women, widows, and the less privileged.

Reflecting on the journey, Evangelist Orikannu described how SWIF has grown from a “spark of light” to a movement impacting lives in America, Kenya, and Nigeria. Over the past five years, SWIF has sponsored female university students, conducted educational programmes for teenagers, organised community events, and carried out numerous interventions, including visits to orphanages, medical outreaches, feeding programmes in Lagos, advocacy for victims of abuse, rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction, and partnerships with other non-profit organisations.

“Despite the challenges, SWIF has remained committed to the welfare of the less privileged, becoming a strong voice to the voiceless and a core advocate for victims of social violence,” Orikannu stated.  She highlighted the importance of the anniversary conference in equipping SWIF members and supporters to advance the organisation’s vision.

Orikannu called for financial assistance to support vulnerable members of society in Nigeria and expressed her hope that SWIF, which currently has a strong presence in Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, and Ogun, will expand its reach to other states, particularly in the South-East.

Pastor Mrs Joy Lotechukwu of Christ’s Harvest and Power Mission in Gbagada, Lagos, encouraged women to support each other and avoid competition. Speaking on the topic “Women of Career,” she lamented the marginalisation of women in Nigeria and praised SWIF for its efforts to empower women.

Pastor Mrs Helen Anya, Ogun State coordinator of SWIF,  thanked the foundation for its inclusive approach in assisting widows and the less privileged. She appealed for donations to enable SWIF to reach more people in need.

Chinaza Ozioma, a 17-year-old beneficiary from Ogun State, expressed her gratitude to SWIF for providing her with computer education, a laptop, Wi-Fi, and seed money to support her family.

Charity Chinene Eluneme, Secretary of SWIF Nigeria, urged the women to spread the message of transformation and encourage more women to find their voices and contribute positively to national development.
