Lawmakers demand investigation into missing corps member

The House of Representatives has ordered an immediate investigation into the disappearance of Godwin Okeke, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member missing since May.

Okeke, from Enugu State, was serving in Ondo State when he vanished on May 9, 2024. Nnolim Nnaji, a lawmaker representing Enugu, raised the issue in parliament, expressing concern over the lack of progress in the case.

Nnaji criticised the Ondo State Commissioner of Police and the NYSC State Coordinator for failing to adequately search for Okeke. He claimed the family has been left to conduct their own search with minimal support from authorities.

Despite reporting the case to the police and NYSC, the family has received little information about the investigation.

The House directed the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of NYSC, and other relevant agencies to investigate Okeke’s disappearance and ensure the safety and welfare of corps members across the country.

The House also urged President Bola Tinubu to direct state governments and security agencies to provide better security and living conditions for NYSC members.
