Speaking during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Driplex Global Ventures Limited firm that is to handle the project in Abuja, President, West African College of Surgeons, Prof Emmanuel Ezeome, disclosed that surgeons combined their resources to address rampant foreign trips to seek more knowledge on practical analysis associated with surgery particularly in Nigeria.
According to Ezeome, the only closest simulation surgical Centre in Africa is in Madagascar. While commending the contributions of the Federal Government, especially for providing free land for the centre in Wuye, Ezeome stressed that the centre would promote education and research in surgery and bring development to the health sector.
Speaking on behalf of the firms involved in the development of the centre, Mr Bitrus Uga, said the memorandum of understanding would be carried out effectively.
The Secretary General of the college, Prof Philip Mshelbwala, said the establishment of the centre would not only attract foreigners but also assist medical institutions in Africa with surgical operations.
Mshelbwala said the initiative would save Nigeria and other African countries over $120 billion yearly and enhance knowledge transfer. He said the surgeons have renewed their commitment towards ensuring the quick take-off of the college in Nigeria.
