President Bola Tinubu has approved the reassignment of 10 ministers, discharged five, and announced the nomination of seven new ministers, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The president also approved the restructuring and winding down of some ministries.

The Ministry of Tourism is now the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, while the functions of the Ministry of Sports are to be transferred to the National Sports Commission.

The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has been renamed the Ministry of Regional Development, with the following commissions now under it: Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); South East Development Commission (SEDC); North East Development Commission (NEDC); andNorth West Development Commission (NWDC).

A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) in Abuja on Thursday stated that necessary directives have been issued for the implementation of the president’s approval.

According to the statement, all handover and takeover processes must be completed on or before Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

For ministries without incoming ministers, the outgoing ministers are to hand over to the permanent secretaries.

“Similarly, the renaming and expansion of the mandate of the defunct Ministry of Niger Delta Development is to take immediate effect,” the statement said.

The relevant supervising authorities and commissions under the new ministry have been duly notified of this development.

Respective permanent secretaries are directed to ensure seamless implementation and submit one copy each of the handover notes to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for the records.
