Four arrested in Ibadan over tiles theft

Four individuals were arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of stealing tiles valued at N200,000.

The defendants, Olalekan Hamzat, 42, Olawale Oluwole, 44, Raman Olagbenjo, 44, and Kunmi Akinlolu, 40, are facing charges of conspiracy and theft but pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Ibrahim, the accused stole 16 cartons of 60×60 tiles, belonging to Mayor Block Industry, on Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. at Liberty Garden, Apata in Ibadan. The alleged acts violate Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe granted each defendant bail at N500,000, requiring two reliable sureties each. The case is scheduled for hearing on December 16.

Similarly in September the police also arraigned three individuals—Folake Jimoh, Hashiru Yerima, and Hassan Alidu—before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft, all of whom pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Inspector Oladejo Balogun stated that the offenses occurred on September 18 in the Ojoo area, where Jimoh allegedly broke into Mr. Abiodun Akinbiyi’s home and stole items valued at ₦2,067,000, including laptops, an electric iron, hot plates, and wristwatches. Balogun also claimed that Yerima and Alidu knowingly received the stolen goods, violating Sections 517 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted the accused persons bail, setting the amount at ₦1 million for each defendant, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until November 12 for further hearing.
