The Nasarawa Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered a sum of N547,000, part of a ransom collected in a recent kidnapping.

The Commissioner of Police, Nadada Umar, said the arrest was made possible due to the command’s dogged fight against criminals ravaging the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ranham Nansel, in a press release made available to journalists in Lafia on Sunday, said the culprit had confessed to the crime.

CP Nadada revealed that police operatives attached to 38 PMF Akwanga, in collaboration with the Nasarawa Eggon Division, arrested one Abdulkarim Zakari of Konba village, Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, in connection with a kidnapping case under investigation.

“Upon interrogation, he confessed to being part of the syndicate that kidnapped the Ciroman Fulani at Arugbadu, where they collected a ransom of N5,000,000, and he was given his share of N1,200,000.”

Nadada has ordered a manhunt for the other fleeing members of the syndicate and commended the officers for sustaining the onslaught against criminals in the state.

The activities of kidnappers and the payment of ransom continue to rear their ugly head in the state, as even security operatives are not spared from becoming victims of kidnapping.
