Ondo Guber: APC inaugurates campaign council, vows victory
With less than three weeks until the November 16 off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday inaugurated the National Campaign Council to coordinate and oversee the party’s campaign in the state.
While inaugurating the campaign council in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, who led chieftains of the party to the state, announced that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State would head the campaign.
Ganduje urged the people of Ondo State to vote en masse for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stating that his victory would ensure the continuation of the developmental and progressive strides currently taking place in the state.
He said, “The campaign will be headed by the Governor of Lagos State. The Secretary of the Campaign Council is no other person than the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. Also, members of the committee include executive governors, ministers, and members of the National Assembly.
“Mr. President is from this geopolitical zone, and to show a mark of respect and appreciation, we must ensure homogeneity in this zone. It is a task that must be achieved through democratic means.
“The governor of Ondo State, who is also the incoming governor by the grace of God, has introduced commendable reforms, and we appreciate his efforts to continue the network of programs and projects being executed in Ondo State.”
Sanwo-Olu, who served in the same capacity four years ago during the second-term bid of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, stressed that the APC’s campaigns would focus on issues.
He said: “Today marks 305 days since Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as governor of the state, and today, history is being made as we stand here. I was privileged to serve as the chairman of the National Campaign Council four years ago, and I want to thank the President, the leader of our party, for giving us the support we needed.
“Our campaign will not be based on sentiment or abuse but on issues. Aiyedatiwa has made our task easier with a compendium of projects he has initiated under his legacy agenda within these 305 days.
“He is someone we can confidently present to the people of Ondo State, assuring them that more developmental projects will be implemented in the next four years.”
Aiyedatiwa, speaking at the event, described the governorship election as a defining moment for the party, Ondo State, and Nigeria.
“This event today reflects the strength of our unity when we work together. It demonstrates our capability, which, by God’s grace, will lead us to victory on November 16, 2024.
“The journey of our party in Ondo State to this point is an open book. Everyone who observes it understands the power of our unity, cooperation, and vision. Even our opponents now realize what we possess in abundance, which they lack.”
