Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has set a quarterly performance target for all paramilitary chiefs and department heads under his purview to realise the Federal Government’s drive for better service delivery to Nigerians.

Speaking at the close of a two-day performance contract signing retreat themed ‘United Front for a Secure Nation and Future’ on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister said Nigerians are not ready to take excuses for poor service delivery; therefore, every agency and department head must meet set targets.

According to him, the present administration is keen on delivering gains if there is good governance; therefore, his ministry and all its agencies and parastatals must work towards achieving results.

He said, “We want to be able to appraise ourselves, we want to be able to set targets for ourselves because we understand that this is not an era to give Nigerians excuses.

The minister, who signed a performance contract with all the agencies and departments under the agency to work towards the realisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, tasked all the heads of paramilitary agencies, including the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), to set their quarter targets for the review of set targets and performance under the Keep Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by the ministry

“We are trusting our heads of agencies to go back, to be able to implement this deliverables and to ensure that in the next one year, the ministry of interior to be right up there where it ought to be in terms of performance,” he said.

He warned that failure to perform could have repercussions because non-performance is unacceptable and that his job is on the line Mr. President expects him not to fail too or else be shown the way out.

Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, said the performance appraisal is indicative that the job given must be done

“A job has been given and we must do it; there is no room for failure. The President has said this is what he expects of the minister; the minister has just stepped it down to us and we will go back to our various agencies and do the same; step it down to our other officers as well; there is absolutely no room for failure,” she said.
