The Odole Oodua, Sir Kessington Adebutu, yesterday, commissioned the Sir Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Media Resource Centre at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos.
The commissioning of the building was graced by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; former governor of Ogun State, Segun Osoba; Lagos State Governor, represented by Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso; Ralph Akinfeleye, Ray Ekpu, Bisi Olatilo, Oladipupo Adebutu and other dignitaries.
Adebutu said that the building was to give back as much as possible to the society that God has favoured him with, saying: “I must primarily give thanks to God who makes all humanity. May He continue to enable us to be useful and be alive.
“I enjoin all those associated with this project and indeed all those passing through its portal to make good use of it. May the Fourth Estate of The Realm, which the media represents, continue to expand in leaps and bounds.”
Edun said: “What Adebutu has done is to help us with the third pillar of education. It is the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to give access to education for all but the infrastructure is also important in education and that is what Kessington is doing today as a partner of the government to deliver this edifice.
Also, Omotoso said: “I have seen the handwriting of Baba Ijebu all over the place, not only in journalism or education but also in sports.
Also speaking, Executive Director of Guardian Newspapers Limited, Tive Alex-Ibru, said: “This will not only boost the media but give awareness on how changes will be made via education. I believe this is a great cause and I hope the Centre will grow daily. This project will touch lives.
“We are growing a hub in the head office of The Guardian so that students can go to the media school. We have our library available to the public and we are committed to journalism.
Ibru, who spoke on the challenges the media is facing, said: “Circulation has reduced, so, we are ensuring investment in digital platforms.”
