Anambra, Gombe record highest intercity bus fare in September
Anambra and Gombe states recorded the highest intercity bus travel (state route charged per person fare) in September with N9,587.27, and followed by N8,330.05 respectively.
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Transport Fare Watch for September 2024 stated that the least fare was recorded in Kwara state with N5,579.42, followed by Ebonyi state with N5,611.06.
Zamfara state recorded the highest intra-city bus journey per drop constant route.
The report stated that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city increased by 3.45 per cent from N869.35 to N899.31. On a year-on-year basis, it declined by 32.38 per cent from N1,329.94.
The report covers the following categories: bus journey within the city per drop constant route, bus journey intercity (state route) charge per person, air fare charge for specified routes single journey, journey by motorcycle per drop and waterway passenger transport.
The report noted that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity per drop was N7,175.06, indicating an increase of 0.22 per cent on a month-on-month basis compared to N7,159 recorded in August 2024. On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 21.26 per cent in September from N5,917.16.
The report stated that the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes for a single journey was N124,693.4, showing an increase of 0.8 per cent compared to the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, air tickets rose by 57.81 per cent, from N79,013.48.
It stated that the average transport fare paid on okada transportation was N532 which was an increase of 1.48 per cent when compared with the value recorded in August 2024 (N524.22).
On a year-on-year basis, the fare decreased by 26.04 per cent when compared with September 2023 (N719.26).
For water transport (waterway passenger transportation), the report stated that the average fare paid in September 2024 was N1,468.23, which indicates an increase of 1.3 per cent every month. On a year-on-year basis, it increased by 4.36 per cent from N1,406.84.
On the other hand, Adamawa state recorded the least with N443.17, followed by Abia state with N458 Similarly, the report stated that Abuja recorded the highest air transport charges (for specified routes single journeys) with N129,600, followed by Anambra state with N129,045.53.
Conversely, Zamfara state recorded the least fare with N96,969.78, followed by Ekiti state with N120,555.37.
Also, the report stated that Lagos state had the highest motorcycle transport fare with N927.07, followed by Ondo state with N766.61. Anambra recorded the least fare with N318.95, followed by Bayelsa state with N319.01.
Similarly, water transport fare was highest in Bayelsa state with N4,573.16, followed by Delta state with N4,268.1, while the lowest fare was recorded in Borno state with N471.01, followed by Gombe state with N628.74.
