The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with a motorcycle robbery gang terrorising residents in Sagamu.

Acting on a tip-off from residents, officers from the Sagamu Division responded swiftly, arresting 26-year-old Segun Owoduti while two other suspects fled with gunshot injuries.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola, police on patrol received a report around 6:50 p.m. on October 30, 2024, about a three-man robbery syndicate operating along the Agbele/Igbepe route.

The robbers, armed and travelling on a motorcycle, were said to have attacked two individuals, Bello Sodiq and Udeju Zaccheaus, who were travelling from Agbele to Igbepe. The victims recounted being confronted by the gang, who brandished a pistol and stole their mobile phones.

Police managed to apprehend Owoduti and recover a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number KJA 568 OM, which was allegedly used by the robbers.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta upon completion.

In another incident, the Command disclosed that detectives arrested a burglary suspect, Joseph Stephen, on October 30, 2024, following a report by his employer, Aboyade Christiana.

Christina, who operates a business on Ishasi Road, Akute, reported to the Ajuwon Divisional Police that Stephen, employed since 2022, had fled with N227,600 and additional items worth N1,272,340. Despite attempts to reach him, Christina could not contact Stephen after he disappeared on October 21.

After tracking Stephen, officers apprehended him. During questioning, he reportedly confessed, claiming he was influenced by a herbalist to commit the theft. The suspect alleged he had handed over N1,550,000 to the herbalist. Police are still investigating the matter.

In a separate development, police also detained Jeje Sunday Babalola in Ago Iwoye after receiving a complaint from Alhaji Musediq Adekoya. Adekoya reported the removal of a solar streetlight pole valued at N500,000, installed on Ijesha Road by a former House of Representatives member.

Police found that Babalola had relocated the pole to his residence on Awolowo Express Road, about two kilometres from its original site, claiming its prior location was inconvenient. Following his arrest, officers recovered the stolen pole from Babalola’s home.

The Ogun State Police Command stated that further investigations are underway in all three cases.
