
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has approved the commencement of Nursing programme at the KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun [SAN], disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities for the institution’s fourth convocation.
At the briefing, Olatunbosun was flanked by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji; the Registrar, Mr. Haruna Adetu; the Bursar, Dr. Michael Alatise, and others.
The vice chancellor said the university was fortunate to have Chief Kola Daisi as the founder, Prof. Adeniyi Osuntogun as the Board of Trustees Chairman, and Remi Babalola as the Pro-Chancellor.
The Vice Chancellor said: “The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has approved the commencement of the Nursing programme in the university.
“Based on the level of the university’s performance, the Council graciously approved an annual intake of 100 students for our Department of Nursing Science. Earlier, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had given its approval for the commencement of courses in our Faculty of Basic Medical Science and other courses.”
The VC also said 156 undergraduate students are graduating this year with 20 of them in the First-Class category at this year’s fourth convocation. The professor stated that 50 graduates were in the Second Class Upper Division.
He said: “At this ceremony, 156 students who have been found worthy in learning and character will be awarded various degrees in their respective courses, and 20 of them bagged first class.
“The Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences is graduating 97, while the Faculty of Applied Sciences is producing 59 candidates.
“In the class of degrees, 20 made first class, 50 made second-class upper division, 56 second-class lower division, and 30 made third-class honours.”
According to Olatunbosun, activities lined up for the convocation include a public lecture on Monday, November 4, 2024, to be delivered by a former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof. Oluwafemi Mimiko with the theme: “Why should regular nation-building challenges continue to undercut Nigeria’s Development Possibilities? Lessons from elsewhere”, the first inaugural lecture will be held on Wednesday by noon while the convocation ceremony and lecture will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
The convocation lecture, which has the topic: “Advancing Nigeria’s Future”, will be delivered by Toyin Falola, a Professor of History at University of Texas, the USA.
The vice chancellor also lauded the Oyo State Government, Oyo State Police Command, and the military for securing the school.
The VC commended the Nigeria Police for their continuous assistance to our university. He also appreciated the support of the Amotekun Corps, the police, the military, and the government of Oyo State.
