
The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a six-month-old boy, Lucky Sunday, who was allegedly abducted by his neighbour, identified as Erica, on September 29, 2024.

The incident occurred at 25 Anekelane Street, Mile 2 Diobu, in Port Harcourt City Council, Rivers State. Erica, a co-tenant of the child’s parents, reportedly kidnapped the baby and fled to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State .
Detectives from Mile 1 Divisional Police Headquarters in Diobu, Port Harcourt, tracked and arrested the suspect two weeks ago. During interrogation, Erica allegedly confessed to selling the baby for N500,000 to a buyer who took the child to Enugu State.
Following further investigation, detectives rescued the child on November 3, 2024, and arrested the female buyer, along with four other suspects involved in the case. Six suspects are being held at Mile 1 Police Station in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The child’s father, Anekan Sunday, confirmed his son’s rescue and the arrest of six suspects but did not provide additional details. The Rivers State Police Command has yet to make an official statement regarding the development.
Meanwhile, rights advocate Prince Wiro, National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability, commended the police for their professionalism in rescuing the child and arresting the suspects. “This demonstrates a high level of professionalism and due diligence,” Wiro said, adding that officers deserve recognition from the state police authority .
Wiro also urged the Police Command to prosecute any suspects found culpable, ensuring justice is served and deterring similar crimes in the future.
