Police operatives attached to the Toto Division in Nasarawa State, in collaboration with community youths, on Monday raided a kidnappers’ hideout located in Achido village, a forested area bordering the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kogi State, rescuing 14 kidnapping victims.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ranham Nansel, in a press statement released on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital, and made available to the Guardian, said the rescued kidnap victims include Adamu Abdullahi, Musa Ahmed and Auwal Adamu of Kuje, FCT-Abuja; Hussaini Yakubu, Haruna Usman, Jibrin Bature, Isyaka Yakubu, Sule Bello, and Yusuf Yusuf, all males from Lapai, Niger State.

Other victims are Yusuf Tashai and Kabiru Iliya from Rubuchi, FCT; Sabo Yakubu, Sagir Iliya, and Yunusa Danladi from Tanshi village, Kuje Area Council, FCT-Abuja.

According to the command’s spokesperson, five suspects were arrested in connection with the crime: Shuaibu Garba, Umar Mohammed, Yakubu Kasim, Mustapha Adamu, and Abdul Mohammed. They confessed to being responsible for supplying food to the kidnappers in the forest.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, reiterated the command’s commitment to continuously partner with community members to rid the state of crime. He also urged the public to always report any suspicious activity, stressing, “If you see something, say something.”
