At Anglican Synod, Amadi urges leaders to embrace God’s divine mandate for development

A renowned Nigerian scholar of international note, Dr. Chima Mathew Amadi, has called on Nigerian leaders to embrace God’s divine mandate to engender development for the country.

Amadi made the call at the Second Session of the 10th Synod of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Diocese of Egbu, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), held at St.Mary’s Anglican Church, Umuokoro, Ngor- Okpala Council, Imo State.

Speaking on the topic: ‘ Nzube Chukwu – God Is A Thinker: Development As A Godly Mandate’, the guest lecturer emphasized God’s role as a great thinker and strategic planner, who divinely crafted the universe from the void state of creation.

Amadi, who is a Doctoral Fellow, University of Warwick, United Kingdom, citing the book of Genesis, said: “God created man in His own image, mandating us to act like Him, co-create, and subdue the earth, actualising His divine purpose for man as a greater thinker and strategic planner. He further highlighted humanity’s responsibility to mirror God’s thinking, fostering justice, peace, and righteousness.”

He therefore expressed deep concerns over Nigeria’s increasing economic challenges, citing poor governance, inequality, and social injustice as he objectively criticised the political leaders’ lack of vision and commitment to the social welfare of the Nigerian masses.
Amadi appealed to Nigerians to be thinkers, maintaining that the time has come for the body of Christ to be avid thinkers.

Other high points of the Synod include a high mass, Bible study session, questions and answers session and presidential address by the Bishop of Egbu Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Enyinnaya Okoroafor. The bishop in his address professed God’s unending steadfastness amid very challenging times of harsh economy, insecurity, and mental stress.

Amadi also donated N15million to the Church to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to support the Church of God and her projects.

Synod Guest Lecture Award was later presented to him by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Egbu, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in human capital development and socio-economic transformation, on the occasion marking the Second Session of the Tenth Synod of the Diocese.
