
The Osun Development Association (ODA) has mourned the untimely passing of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
In a statement, yesterday, the ODA Chairman, Dr. Segun Aina, said: “Lagbaja’s life was dedicated to the service and security of our nation. His unwavering commitment to peace and stability leaves an inspiring legacy that will be remembered for generations.
“Lagbaja’s contributions to Nigeria’s unity and safety resonate strongly with the Osun community and beyond. His leadership, courage, and dedication exemplified the highest standards of military service, and his efforts to safeguard national security were invaluable to the progress of our country. His absence is a profound loss for all Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has declared a three-day mourning for the late CoAS.
It also directed that flags be flown at half-mast during this period.
This was according to a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who said that condolence registers had been opened at the Government House and the Governor’s Office.
The statement stated: “The government is deeply saddened by the irreparable loss of one of the glories of Osun State and extends particular condolences to the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and everyone affected.
“The mourning period will begin today, November 7 and end on November 9, 2024.”
“The condolence registers are available for people to share their memories of the late CoAS who passed away at the age of 56.”
