Former internationals, Felix Owolabi, Samson Ozogula, Mutiu Adepoju, Bright Omokaro and Prince Afejuku are among former Super Eagles stars listed to feature in the incoming Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s inauguration football match scheduled to hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, on November 10.
They will face a team of All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts led by the incoming governor and former APC Chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
Unveiling plans for the novelty game in Benin, yesterday, former Edo State FA Chairman, Frank Ilaboya, said that the match is part of activities to usher in Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
Ilaboya said: “We are set for the match. Over 10 ex-internationals are coming.
Others expected are Super Eagles interim manager, Austine Eguavoen, Samson Ozogula, Baldwin Bazuaye, Beijing Olympic Games goalkeeper, Ambrose Vanzekin, Peter Obanor, Tony Emediofu, and Prince Oritsuwa Afejuku.
“Ex Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Austine Iyamu, William Enobakhare and Tony Mentie are also on the list.”
On the opposing side, which is also known as the Akpakomiza Team, according to Ilaboya, are Edo’s political heavyweights, including Okpeblolo and Idahosa.
“Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will lead the others involving the State Party Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, and his Secretary Lawrence Orka. Others are Pastor Ize Iyamu, Matthew Uroghide, Gen Cecil Eseikhaigbe, the chairman of the Inauguration Committee, Orobosa Omo Ojo, and Dr Emmanuel Paddy.”
The defenders in the governor’s team listed by the organisers are Lucky Ohimai, popularly known as TAREX, Ernest Afolabi, Felix Aganbi and Felix Osaro.
Speaking on the match, Tenebe, played down the presence of ex-internationals in the opposing team saying, “most of us were good footballers in our youthful days, and we will prove it again come Sunday.”
