Hon. Sani Mohammed Sha’aban, born on August 24, 1958, in the historical city of Zaria, Kaduna State, is known across Nigeria for his longstanding public service and active engagement in politics. His early years were marked by a dedicated journey through education, starting in Zaria. Sha’aban’s primary education commenced at the Nurul-Huda L.E.A Primary School in Tudun Wada, where he laid the groundwork for his future academic pursuits. From 1968 to 1973, he was a student there, later earning his first School Leaving Certificate.

Following his primary education, Sha’aban’s quest for learning took him to the Government Commercial College in Zaria, where he attended from 1973 to 1978. Here, he pursued his secondary education with a focus on building foundational knowledge in commercial subjects, culminating in his Senior Secondary School Certificate. With a clear interest in business and finance, he would soon make his way into higher education.

In 1980, Hon. Sha’aban graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he undertook studies in accounting. At the time, ABU was recognized as one of Africa’s largest universities, a reputation that persists today. His choice to study at ABU was significant, as the institution held substantial influence and attracted students from across the continent. Sha’aban’s time at ABU marked the start of his formal education in accounting, a subject he would pursue further in his professional studies abroad.

Continuing his studies in the United Kingdom, Sha’aban enrolled in the South-West London College and the London School of Accountancy. His ambition led him to qualify with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), specializing in financial accounting. He was recognized as one of the youngest Africans to achieve this designation, a testament to his drive and dedication. Sha’aban later became a member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, solidifying his expertise in the field.
