Assistant Inspector General of Police Benneth Igweh has directed a full investigation into claims of extortion involving officers from the Zone 7 Police Command in Abuja.

The allegations surfaced on Friday through Harrison Gwamnishu, an X user with the handle #HarrisonBbi18, who claimed that Zone 7 officers extorted N2.3 million from Nwosu Ndubuisi, reportedly forcing him to sell his laptop at Banex Plaza in Abuja to afford bail.

In response, Zone 7 Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir, confirmed on Monday that the Command had launched an investigation, pledging to keep the public informed.

“The attention of Zone 7 Police Command Headquarters, Abuja, has been drawn to news circulating on social media…claiming that officers from Zone 7 Headquarters allegedly extorted the sum of Two Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,300,000) from Mr. Nwosu Ndubuisi,” the statement read.

AIG Igweh, known for his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, vowed accountability and disciplinary action for any misconduct.

Zone 7 leadership reiterated that it does not condone extortion, corruption, or human rights abuses.
