An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan yesterday ordered the remand of four individuals over allegations of armed robbery and murder, while a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court also remanded four businessmen in connection with the theft of N24.6 million.
In Ibadan, the defendants — Moshood Adesanmi (38), Abiodun Akinboye (30), Nathaniel Adedokun (54), and Tiamiyu Sarafa (45) — are facing charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, and receiving stolen property.
The court did not take their pleas due to lack of jurisdiction. Magistrate Adebola Adeola instructed the police to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, adjourning the case until December 5.
Prosecutor Iyabo Oladoyin revealed that the accused allegedly committed the offences on July 23 at 10:00 p.m. in the Akinyele area of Ibadan. They were said to have conspired with others still at large to attack and rob Taiwo Adegboyega, an escort attached to a Mack truck transporting household goods valued at N100 million to a camp for persons with disabilities in Borno.
The suspects were reportedly armed with guns and cutlasses, leading to the death of the 27-year-old Adegboyega. Additionally, they allegedly robbed one Rasak Adeyemi of his truck and received stolen goods, fully aware that they were obtained through armed robbery.
The offences, according to Oladoyin, contravene Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State (2000) and Sections 6 (b) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria (2004).
In Makurdi, the Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded four defendants — Stephen Tsavkase, Emmanuel Iorfa, Destiny Terhemba, and Barnabas Terhide — over allegations of stealing N24.6 million from one Abraham Ogwuche.
The suspects, all residents of Tse-Agberagba in Konshisha Local Council of Benue, were charged with criminal conspiracy, office breaking, mischief, and theft.
Chief Magistrate Kelvin Mbanongun also declined to take their pleas due to lack of jurisdiction, adjourning the matter until December 18 for further mention.
According to Prosecutor Godwin Ato, the victim reported on October 20 that the accused broke into his filling station and stole N24.6 million. Following investigations, the suspects were apprehended and allegedly confessed to the crime. A search of Tsavkase’s house reportedly led to the recovery of N1 million. Ato stated that the offences contravene Sections 97, 356, 329, and 288 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue (2004).
