Oluwaseun Osiyemi
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi has said that effective parking management is crucial to reducing traffic congestion, enhancing road safety, and optimizing traffic flow—core goals of the Lagos State THEMES+ Agenda.

In a statement, he said this at the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) three-day leadership retreat, aimed at a renewed commitment to sustainable, tech-enabled solutions that will transform parking across the state through innovation, partnerships, and data-driven strategies.

The retreat, held between November 8 and 11, 2024, was facilitated by Candor Consulting, with the theme “Serving & Improving the Parking Needs of Lagos State in Line with the First Pillar of the Lagos State THEMES+ Agenda.

In his opening address, Osiyemi outlined a bold vision for LASPA’s role in reshaping Lagos’ transport and parking infrastructure.

He stressed that effective parking management is crucial to reducing traffic congestion, enhancing road safety, and optimising traffic flow—core goals of the Lagos State THEMES+ Agenda.

Highlighting the role of technology in the parking system of Lagos State, Osiyemi shared plans for smart parking systems that utilise real-time data to ease congestion and reduce the time drivers spend searching for parking.

The commissioner also announced LASPA’s plans to implement regulated on-street parking and develop modern parking facilities in high-traffic areas through public-private partnerships.

He noted that private sector collaboration is essential for expanding parking infrastructure across Lagos, particularly in high-density areas.

The Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa, reinforced this message of the Commissioner, encouraging LASPA to collaborate effectively with sister agencies in the Ministry of Transportation.

He highlighted the importance of unified efforts, stating, “our success depends on working together and adopting a cohesive approach to achieve our shared goals.”

The LASPA General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, expressed confidence in the agency’s leadership and commitment to change.

She reassured residents that LASPA would pursue continuous improvement and innovation, entering a new phase of growth to ensure an efficient, accessible, and sustainable parking system in Lagos.

“We are committed to delivering a seamless parking experience for all Lagosians,” Mrs. Adelabu stated. “This retreat has equipped us to drive essential changes in parking management.

“As LASPA moves forward with its strategic vision, the agency is focused on expanding smart parking technologies, maximising urban space for parking, constructing modern facilities, and introducing data-driven policies to guide future planning. Additionally, LASPA aims to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders and encourage public compliance with parking regulations.”

She revealed that over the next few months, Lagosians should expect more initiatives to reduce parking-induced traffic, create additional parking spaces, and enhance overall traffic flow from LASPA.
