Lagos refutes ‘smelly’ tag
The Lagos State Government has refuted claims that its environment is ‘smelly’.
“For all I know, that is very far from the truth,” said the Spokesperson for the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina.
Speaking with our correspondent, Adeshina said the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) does its duty of keeping the state clean by picking up refuse and waste wherever they find them.
He described the information as falsehood.
“I know it was one nurse that first said something like that but they can always have their say while we’ll always have our way,” he said.
Adeshina said the state is aware of those behind the campaign, adding that since the last election, they’ve never had anything good to say about the state government.
On the effort of the state against flooding, he said the commissioner for the ministry has put in place a system that ensures all-year-round maintenance and cleaning of all drainages.
He said as part of the state’s responsibility of protecting lives and property, campaigns were ongoing to educate the masses on the dangers of littering drainages.
He said clogged drainages were responsible for flash flooding after long hours of rainfall, adding that emergency response teams clear such clogs to enable smooth passage of the flood to the lagoon.
