The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested a suspect for using the name of the state Police Commissioner, Shehu Nadada Umar, and other persons to defraud members of the public by offering them jobs.

This was made known in a press statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ranham Nansel, in Lafia on Sunday.

The suspect, Yusuf Idris, a 33-year-old man from Obi Local Government Area of the state, who resides at Ombi I, Lafia, was arrested for name-dropping the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, to defraud unsuspecting job seekers of their hard-earned money under the guise of securing them jobs in the Nigeria Police Force and the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board, respectively.

According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the suspect had fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Monday Akinde in Obi, with a promise to secure a job for him at the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.

The police disclosed that the victim was tricked into bringing someone seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force, where the suspect stated that the Commissioner of Police had given him a slot, and he was willing to sell it for N500,000.

“In a bid to convince his victim of the authenticity of his claims, the suspect lured the victim to the State Police Command Headquarters and left him at the entrance of the Command.

“The suspect then entered the Command Headquarters and was lurking around before he was consequently arrested, and the aforementioned confessions were made.

“A search was immediately conducted on him, where two fake promotion letters of people working at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, which he claimed to have gotten on Facebook, and a cash sum of N300,000 were recovered from him as exhibits.”

CP Nadada has called on members of the public who might have fallen victim to the suspect to come forward with their complaints and urged the public to be wary of employment racketeers and be mindful of posting sensitive information about themselves on social media.

The CP further warned those planning to follow the path of the arrested suspect to turn over a new leaf, as anyone caught will not be spared.
