Obaseki’s aide carpets Gov Okpebholo’s probe plan
Crusoe Osagie, the media aide to the immediate past governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, believes that Governor Monday Okpebholo has nothing to offer the state, hence his insistence on probing his predecessor.
In a statement released over the weekend, Crusoe argued that Okpebholo’s initiative to investigate Obaseki’s administration is merely a smokescreen to mask his incompetence and lack of preparation for office.
He said that the governor lacks a clear vision to drive development in the state. Crusoe criticized the governor for resorting to cheap political theatrics and using a series of meaningless probes to distract from his evident incompetence and lack of direction.
He described the proposed investigation as an attempt to deflect attention from Okpebholo’s shortcomings, warning that any move to persecute Obaseki would ultimately fail.
“Our attention has been drawn to a laughable and utterly ridiculous statement from Governor Okpebholo’s administration regarding the establishment of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee tasked with probing the administration of his predecessor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, who is internationally recognised for leading one of the most transparent, accountable, and prudent governments in Nigeria’s history.
“This is just another instance in a series of meaningless probes that the governor and his aimless government have embarked upon since taking office through dubious means. “From investigating civil servants’ employment to looking into the operations of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as scrutinising government vehicles and other assets, the governor has demonstrated that he is devoid of fresh ideas and a clear vision for the state’s development.
Consequently, he has resorted to these empty charades to buy time and distract from his incompetence.
“He seems to think he can treat the people of Edo like an undiscerning mob, easily distracted by spectacles akin to the gladiatorial fights of Ancient Rome.
“However, Okpebholo will soon discover that being governor is the hardest job in Nigeria, as the people of Edo are wise and cannot be easily fooled. While his diversionary probes may succeed in misleading citizens in some states, they certainly will not work in Edo State,” the statement noted.
Governor Okpebholo has already announced the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee, which is set to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
The committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Government House in Benin City.
