Nile Varsity announces 12th convocation ceremony

Nile University of Nigeria is set to hold its 12th convocation ceremony from November 27 to 28, 2024.

The convocation lecture, titled, “Sustainable Energy Solutions: Pathways to Nigeria’s Industrial Development,” will be delivered by a former Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Dr. Usman Mohammed Gur.

Over 1,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students across eight faculties will graduate during the ceremony.

Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Dilli Dogo, stated this at a press conference in Abuja yesterday.

Prof. Dogo gave the breakdown of graduands to include 1,019 undergraduates and 857 postgraduates.

He said the institution has achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of Nile Online, a digital learning platform, and a hybrid Executive MBA programme.

His words: “Since joining Honoris United Universities in 2020, Nile University has consistently achieved exponential year-on-year growth in student population. Between 2020 and 2024, Nile University’s student population more than quadrupled in size (from over 3,000 to more than 12,000 students), reflecting the university’s enhanced reputation as a provider of world-class education.

“This growth is evident in the annual increase in the number of students graduated by the university— which rose from 1,200+ in the 2023 convocation ceremony to 1,800+ in the upcoming 2024 convocation ceremony.

The V-C added: “Nile University of Nigeria significantly increased its on-campus facilities in the 2023/24 academic session to cater to the needs of its rapidly growing student community. In December 2023, the university completed the construction of its new learning city, which included a 2,000+ capacity STEM Lab building housing over 20 ultra-modern laboratories, a state-of-the-art academic building housing the Faculties of Computing Studies and Engineering, as well as a Student Center building which facilitates the provision of top-notch student support services like guidance counselling, career and entrepreneurship training, etc. Additionally, the university constructed a medical simulation centre and two new hostel buildings (one each for male and female students) to increase its on-campus housing capacity,” he added.

The institution, he added, would continue to prioritize infrastructure development, as evidenced by the ongoing construction of a Senate building, new hostels, and other facilities to support its current and future growth.

The academic explained that to enhance employability, the university boasts of a comprehensive Career Services Center and an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub, known as the Collective Lab, designed to equip students with essential skills and entrepreneurial spirit.

“The most recent (2023) employability report – which measures the percentage of Nile’s graduates who become gainfully employed within a year of graduation –for Nile’s graduating class of 2022 shows an impressive 90% employability rate (an 18% increase from the previous year),” he said.
