Following the alleged dumping of toxic wastes in Koko, Delta State, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the state government have promised to conduct laboratory tests to determine their toxicity.
This is coming almost three decades after 8, 000 drums of toxic wastes were dumped in the community.
The NCS’s Area Comptroller, Edo, Delta, Oni Egboma disclosed this to newsmen yesterday when he visited the dumpsite.
Egboma said the command had earlier made preliminary investigations in the matter, but added that the toxicity of the product could only be confirmed through A laboratory analysis
“From what I have seen here, there is no evidence of importation of any of these products. We would wait to see the evidence that oil companies operating in the area dumped the wastes,” he said.
Also, the State Commissioner for Environment, John Obukohwo Nani, said the ministry had already taken a sample of the wastes for a laboratory test.
