With just two days to go before Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024, the National Peace Council (NPC) has enjoined Ghanaians to prioritise peace.

The country’s two largest political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will hold their final campaign rallies on Thursday in Accra. The NPP will gather at Legon, while the NDC will rally at Madina.

Last week, all 12 presidential candidates, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and John Dramani Mahama of the NDC signed the fourth Presidential Elections Peace Pact in Accra. By signing, they pledged to ensure peace and stability before, during, and after the elections.

In a statement released by the NPC, political supporters are urged to uphold their leaders’ commitment to peace and respect others with different political views.

Fouzia, an Assistant Programmes Manager at the NPC, shared a heartfelt message, saying: “The elections will come and go, but we remain one people. Someone’s opinion or ideology does not make another’s wrong. Let us respect and tolerate each other.”

The NPC also reminded supporters to maintain law and order during the rallies and throughout the election period. The NDC has added its voice, calling on security agencies to act with professionalism while ensuring the safety of all citizens.

As the campaign season draws to a close, the NPC’s message is clear: peace and unity must remain the cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy.

The Igbo diaspora king in the Republic of Ghana, a respected opinion moulder and royal father of repute, HRM Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, in a release at his revered Obiukwu, ObiIgbo, Obieziokwu royal palace in Ghana, which was available by his Director on Media Strategy and Communications, Njoku MacDonald Obinna, called on all Igbos, Nigerians, and foreigners living in Ghana to remain law abiding and peaceful before, during, and after the elections as no nation can develop without peace.

He urged eligible voters, to go and vote for their preferred candidates on Saturday while cautioning the youths not to allow themselves to be used as vessels to cause crisis as Ghana is seen as a very peaceful country where democratic ethos is practiced.

He, however, commended the leadership of the Republic of Ghana for accommodating Nigerians, and all foreigners over the years, maintaining that true African spirit of brotherhood and bilateral economic ties with Ghana is examplified in the relationship Ghana and Nigeria have shared over the decades.
