Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, has been appointed as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State.
The appointment, announced by the PDP’s 27 Local Government Area Chairmen Forum in Imo State, positions Ugochinyere as the party’s highest-ranking elected official in the state.
In a statement signed by Barr. Uche Alisigwe, the forum called on PDP stakeholders to rally behind Ugochinyere to revive the party’s fortunes at both the state and national levels.
“After extensive consultations and reflections on the state of the PDP in Imo and across Nigeria, we resolved to appoint Hon. Barr. Ikenga Ugochinyere as our leader,” the statement read.
“This is based on his antecedents, sterling leadership qualities, and commitment to the protection and promotion of the ethos of our party over the years.”
Expressing confidence in his ability, the forum added that judging from Ugochinyere’s ingenuity, it is confident in the lawmaker’s ability to be the rallying point of PDP in Imo State for the party to rebound ahead of future polls.
It said, “We, therefore, urge stakeholders in the party to rally around him and give him all the support needed to succeed in the task of rebuilding our party into a virile force to be reckoned with, not just for electoral purposes but in the promotion of democratic ideals which our party espouses.”
The forum also passed a vote of confidence in Ugochinyere while calling for immediate changes at the party’s national level.

It said, “We insist that the acting national chairman of PDP, Umar Damagun, and national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, should be removed without further delay. Their continued stay in office, even illegally, is doing more harm than good to our party as we prepare to take over government in 2027.”
Party leaders emphasised unity and support for Ugochinyere, expressing optimism about his leadership in guiding the PDP toward electoral and democratic success.
