Okpebholo presents 2025 budget proposal of N605b

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, presented a budget estimate of N605 billion appropriation bill for 2025 to the Edo State House of Assembly.

Speaking during the presentation, Okpebholo christened the budget as a budget of ‘renewed hope for a rising Edo,’ saying it is 25% higher than the 2024 budget.

He said that the recurrent expenditure would take N223 billion, which represents 37% while capital expenditure would be N381 billion, representing 63%.

Okpebholo noted that the 2025 budget is designed to achieve the five-point agenda of his administration which are Security, Infrastructural Development, Healthcare, Food Sufficiency and Education.

The governor gave the sectoral breakdown of the budget as N162 billion for road development across the state, N48 billion for Education, N63.9 billion for Health, N1.8 billion for the Health Insurance Scheme and N4.5 billion for the Agricultural sub-sector.

Okpebholo explained that the proposed appropriation bill was a product of wide consultations, and promised to ensure accountability and transparency in governance for responsive service delivery to the people of Edo State.

Receiving the 2025 budget proposal, the speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, assured the governor that the House would expedite action on the budget.

The speaker also gave the assurance of the assembly’s resolve to work with the governor for the good of the Edo people.
