The project, which was unveiled yesterday, aims to improve transportation and provide a decent environment for residents and businesses. According to Oluwole Cole, former president of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the upgraded roads will have a positive impact on the state’s economy.

“The roads are befitting of the edifices around them, and the governor has done well. This will make life easier and reduce money spent on vehicular maintenance,” Cole said.

Wonu Folami, a resident, emphasised the importance of motorable roads in society, stressing their role in ensuring smooth running of areas, security, health emergencies, and business operations.

The chairman of Victoria Island and Ikoyi Security and Environment Trust (VIISET) Akin Fadoju, noted that the government’s intervention has transformed the once-bad roads and drainage systems in Ikoyi, which were prone to flooding.

The project was part of the THEMES+ Agenda development plan and includes the rehabilitation of Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Femi Okunnu Road, and Macpherson Road, undertaken by Messrs Julius Berger Nigeria Plc., and Messrs GELD Construction Ltd.

The 5.90km road network boasts cutting-edge features, including scarified pavement surfaces, relocated essential services, earthworks, and modern drainage systems with cover slabs serving as walkways.

Eti-Osa Local Council has undergone significant transformation, becoming one of the most prosperous areas in the state. The project’s success is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, project teams, and stakeholders.

Commissioning the road on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwuo-Olu, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola commended the project team’s expertise and commitment to excellence.

He thanked Messrs Julius Berger and Messrs GELD Construction for their professionalism throughout the construction period. He encouraged Lagosians to partner with the government by paying their taxes and land rates, assuring that a “Greater Lagos” is achievable with their support.

The governor’s appeal came as the state continues to invest in infrastructure development, aiming to enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses.
