Apapa Port records 20,856 trucks in November

APM Terminals Apapa said it handled 20,856 trucks in November alone, the highest traffic recorded since the terminal began operations in 2006.

The Terminal Manager, Steen Knudsen, who disclosed this yesterday, said the milestone follows a series of significant operational and infrastructural upgrades such as expanded barge slots, a new booking app and improved rail services for streamlined logistics.

He attributed the milestone to the success of the terminal’s overhauling infrastructure, modernising equipment, enhancing services and investment in manpower development.

Also, Knudsen said the terminal has increased its yard capacity to accommodate 2,400 more twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of export cargo and introduced extended gate access with dedicated export lanes to reduce turnaround times.

Knudsen emphasised the importance of these upgrades, stating that the milestone highlights the tangible results of embedding a lean culture across the terminal’s operations.

“By continuously optimising processes, we are creating seamless opportunities for our valued customers while fostering a robust ecosystem for truck and cargo flow,” he said.

The terminal manager acknowledged the vital support of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other partners in achieving this historic accomplishment.

Knudsen said the terminal remains committed to pushing boundaries and setting new standards in Nigeria’s logistics sector.

“Together, we will continue to transform the logistics landscape in Nigeria. Our goal is to enhance satisfaction levels for our end users and consistently deliver world-class services,” Knudsen added.
