Farm Alert in partnership with the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association has provided a start up fund of N1m each to 12 Veterinarians, to establish their own veterinary practice.

The Chief Executive Officer of Farm Alert, Dr. Femi Kayode, while handing over the cheques during the 5th anniversary of the firm, said they are dedicated to enhancing animal health.

He stated that the Vet-Preneurship Programme, the second of its kind, is an initiative, which supports young veterinarians to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Kayode disclosed that the firm has undergone different projects to bring improvement to people and the veterinary community, including Eggs of Hope Initiative.

He said the initiative aims to distribute 300 million eggs over the next three years to make impact on the lives of vulnerable children across Nigeria, where they have donated 1800 eggs so far to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and Schools.

Dr. Kayode said another scheme is driven by Data Project, which aims to provide information on animal health, establish a network that allows sharing of animal health information across borders and publications of animal health data that is easy to share, through which they have reached thousands of people and countries in Africa and United States.

The President of Veterinary Council Of Nigeria, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, in her remarks urged them to invest what they have received wisely. She said: “This is a beautiful relationship between the mentor and the mentee, usually there is bad blood either from the boss, with allegations of you have stolen my money to start a business or the young veterinarians speaking bad of their boss, but that is not so here. I know there will be checks on you all to ensure you are investing wisely.”

Baju also commented Farm Alert for adding so much value to the veterinary medicine and thanked the CEO for taking keen interest and passion towards the growth of young veterinarians and touching lives.

The Vice President of African Veterinary Association, Dr. Gani Enahoro in his goodwill message commended Farm Alert for filling the gap and directly impacting the community.

“About 33 per cent of companies at five years don’t find it easy to continue, but this is five years for Farm Alert and there is a continuation.”
