The National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners, Ebonyi State Chapter, yesterday, warned traditional rulers and government officials to stop interfering with the activities of members, insisting that their works are genuine and legal.

The National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners, Ebonyi State Chapter, yesterday, warned traditional rulers and government officials to stop interfering with the activities of members, insisting that their works are genuine and legal.

The warning is contained in a communiqué signed by the Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman, Dr Sunday Nwaji, the State Chairman, Dr Stephen Ndubuisi Nwogha, and others.

They said that the interference by traditional institutions in the state and government officials is unbecoming, and has created disunity in the affairs of the union warning them to stop.

They urged the traditional rulers to concentrate on their assigned mandate of being fathers of their various communities and custodians of the people’s culture.

They pleaded with those in corridors of power to focus on the implementation of government policies and programmes rather than delving into their activities, warning that their involvement will not only polarise the union but heat the polity.

The communiqué reads: “Arising from an emergency meeting of the National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners, Ebonyi State chapter, held at the union’s secretariat Abakaliki on December 11, 2024, members unanimously resolved that:

“Traditional rulers in Ebonyi should stop interfering with activities of the Medical Herbal Practitioners in the state, as their meddlesomeness has created disunity in the affairs of the union”.

“We urge them to concentrate on their assigned mandate of being the father of their various communities and custodian of the people’s culture.”
