President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through her Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), on Tuesday, supported 250 elderly persons in Oyo State with cash.
Mrs. Tinubu stated that the initiative is an annual programme aimed at improving the welfare of elderly citizens across the country.
Nigeria’s First Lady, represented by the wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, explained that the scheme targets 250 elderly citizens aged 65 and above across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).
Mrs Tinubu announced that the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Governing Board has increased the annual grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year, underscoring the administration’s commitment to supporting elderly citizens, especially during the festive season.
Remi Tinubu said: “A total of One Billion, Nine Hundred Milion Naira (N1,900,000,000) will be disbursed across the nation.
“The RHI Coordinators in the 36 States of the federation, the FCT and DEPOWA have received N50,000,000 each, out of which N200,000 will be distributed today to each beneficiary. In addition to this, free medical check-ups and other sundry items will be provided.
“I commend all our State First Ladies/RHI State Coordinators and partners for their efforts in making this day a reality.
“I congratulate all our senior citizens who have been selected as beneficiaries. I urge you to remember to prioritise your health even as we all enjoy and celebrate in the festive season.
“Eat well, stay hydrated, do little exercise – like walking and getting adequate rest. Spend quality time with loved ones, and do what you enjoy and make you happy.”
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, commended the initiative, urging beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked Mrs Tinubu, saying it will go a long way in helping them, particularly during this festive period.
