No fewer than 250 elderly individuals from Niger State have benefited from a N200,000 cash donation to each person by the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While distributing the cash to the elderly on Tuesday, 17th December 2024, in Minna, the First Lady noted that the gesture was part of the launch of the 2nd edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative

Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) across the country.

According to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the scheme was designed to support the welfare of elderly citizens periodically.

The gesture, with the theme “TOTAL WELLNESS: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle,” was emphasized during the event.

The President’s wife, represented by the wife of the Niger State governor, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Umaru Bago, disclosed that 250 elderly citizens aged 65 and above in each of the 36 states of the federation had benefited from the scheme.

She also hinted that other beneficiaries included veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).

Senator Oluremi highlighted that the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative had increased the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support to elderly citizens during the festive season, adding that a total of N1.9 billion would be disbursed across the country.

She urged the senior citizens selected as beneficiaries to prioritize their health during the festive season, saying: “Eat well, stay hydrated, do a little exercise like walking, and get adequate rest.”

Bako Bawa, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the wife of the President and the governor’s wife for the thoughtful gesture.
