The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has commiserated with his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, over the loss of lives in a stampede at a funfair event in Ibadan on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the incident which led to the death of about 30 kids as deeply traumatic.
He conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the government and the people of Osun to those who lost loved ones in the tragedy while expressing support for the government and the people of Oyo State in overcoming the difficult moment.
The governor prayed for the quick recovery of all those injured and receiving medical attention in different healthcare facilities, noting that the monumental tragedy was a big loss, not only to Oyo people, but for the whole of humanity.
“In this difficult moment, I assure Governor Makinde of my solidarity and support in navigating through this unfortunate incident, and I also pray to God Almighty to grant those with injuries quick and safe recovery,” he was quoted as saying.
While praying for the repose of the soul of the departed, Adeleke emphasised the need for solidarity to overcome the challenging situation, and tasked event planners to always prioritise safety.
