Police arrest 280 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers in Nasarawa
The Police in Nasarawa State have arrested 280 suspected criminals between January and December 2024.
They include 107 suspected kidnappers and 173 armed robbery suspects.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the State Command Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in Lafia, while speaking on the preparedness of the command for a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Nansel said that the arrest was made by the command in addressing the security situation, stressing that the suspects are now in security custody.
He noted that 27 kidnap victims were rescued, with 27 vehicles and motorcycles recovered.
Nansel assured residents, particularly Christians, that security personnel would be deployed adequately to worship and recreation centres, as well as other strategic places, to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New Year.
He also stressed the need for residents to be security conscious by ensuring that at least one family member is left behind at home whilst others are away to celebrate.
Nasarawa state has been grappling with security challenges, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery and sexual assaults among others.
Aside from the kidnapping of government officials and wives of politicians, students of tertiary institutions, journalists and traders have also fallen victims of the ugly experiences in 2024.
